Thousands Of Bersatoe Indonesian Journalists Coalition Joined in Peaceful Action “Police Just Know That UKW Has No Rules in the Press Law”

Jakarta (ANN) | Thousands of press personnel from various media and journalistic organizations on behalf of the Bersatoe Indonesian Journalists Coalition held intellectual and insightful actions at 2 assembly points, some of them in front of the Press Council Building and the others at the Police Headquarters, Thursday (24/32022).

The demands raised by the Bersatoe Journalists Coalition began with a statement by the Chair of the Lampung Indonesian Journalist Association or PWI Honorary Council who also claimed to be a press expert from the Press Council and Hendry Ch Bangun, the Deputy Chair of the Press Council, which was deemed to obscure the constitution of Law no. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press.

“We demand the accountability of the Press Council which is considered to have deviated from the constitutional mandate of Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press. “ said Munif, an East Java Press Activist after his speech in front of the Press Council building.

Meanwhile, Central Java press activist Ardhi Solehudin, who was also a participant from the action from Banyumas, regretted that the Press Council building, which he was proud of, had been occupied by the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the Ministry of Communication and Information.

“The Press Council, which is supposed to be a symbol of democracy, transparency and the rule of law, doesn’t have the guts to meet our demonstration. Thousands of actions, even after the representatives of the protest participants were invited to enter, there was no one on the Press Council, there were only ASN Kominfo. “Obviously Ardhi.

He considered that the press council building had become an inconsequential process of the press council, where the building belonging to press personnel was actually filled with Kominfo ASN, lest the press council management including the chairman had become an ASN. “Ardhi sneered.

Today’s demonstration by members of the press is the result of a long conflict as a result of the regulations of the Press Council which have violated the constitution of Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press, regarding the Verification of Press Companies and the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) of the Press Council.

The members of the press were slightly disappointed when the follow-up action to the National Police Headquarters was immediately responded to and accepted by representatives of the participants in the action. In the mediation, it was concluded that the National Police Headquarters did not know that the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) and Media Verification products were not contained in Law no. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press.

Based on the information from the Head of Sub-section Yanduan, Kompol Agus Priyanto regretted that the East Lampung Police and Lampung Police had criminalized fellow journalists and a general chairman of PPWI.

“We also regret the arrests and detentions carried out by the East Lampung Police and the Lampung Regional Police against fellow journalists and PPWI chairman, even though Wilson Lalengke has also helped us a lot for the TNI/Polri to develop human resources through journalistic training for our members. “said Agus.

For that, Agus continued, the criminalization of journalists will be immediately addressed and immediately followed up directly to the National Police Chief. “He said.

These are the four (4) demands of the Bersatoe Coalition of Indonesian Journalists

1. Criminalize Iskandar Zulkarnain Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Lampung PWI who also claims to be a Press Expert of the Press Council for his viral remarks for obfuscating the constitution of Law no. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press, causing provocation and noise and triggering the anger of the Indonesian press;

2. Removing the rules on media verification and the UKW of the Press Council which have clearly departed from the constitutional mandate of Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press;

3. Get rid of elements of the Press Council management who are not in line with the Vision and Mission of the establishment of an Independent Press Council;

4. Revoke the Presidential Decree, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the TNI/Polri, the Government and the Press Council. (Editorial/ release)
