The PWRI Chairman Invited All Elements of The Nation to Maintain The Values of Tolerance

Jakarta (ANN) – The substance of a sense of nationality and diversity is the awareness to unite amidst differences as a nation, because of a sense of similarity and interest for the future of Indonesia.
The sense of nationality and diversity is the glue that unites and at the same time provides the basis for all people to understand national identity.
This sense of nationality and diversity must be more clearly reflected in the reality of people’s lives.
This was conveyed by the Chairperson of the Central Leadership Council of the Association of Indonesian Republic of Journalists (DPP PWRI) Dr. Suriyanto PD, SH, M.Kn.
Suriyanto admitted that he was concerned about the current condition of the nation which was starting to be fragile from the values of diversity.
According to him, there were a number of religious leaders who issued opinions that could actually tear the foundations of unity and integrity.
“I am very concerned about the fragility of our diversity. There was a religious figure, who issued an inappropriate statement, brought up native names, then clashed against them, only for the interests of certain groups, so that it has the potential to cause friction between people and groups,” Suriyanto told media crew in Jakarta, Wednesday 28 December 2022.
Suriyanto emphasized that a figure, especially a religious leader, should give a soothing statement, not a provocative statement that could cause uproar and friction in society.
“As Muslims, we must practice a religious way of life that is true by practicing at three levels of ukhuwah brotherhood, namely the relationship between fellow religious adherents or Ukhuwah Diniyyah, the relationship between fellow children of the nation ukhuwah Wathaniyah, and the relationship between fellow human beings ukhuwah Insaniyyah,” he said.
Suriyanto revealed that religion in human and cultural development is directed to be able to provide a driving force for progress, provide a basis for a society that has character, morality and ethics, capable of realizing a life of tolerance in society.
In realizing this, he said, of course, assistance from various levels of society is needed, including leaders from the national element, not only from the government.
“The country needs support from various parties to increase the spirit of unity and nationhood. Social harmonization and community solidarity are two urgent needs at this time.
We must instill a commitment to stand up and step together to promote development in this country. These two needs must no longer be negotiated by the interests of any group or separatist movement within the territory of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
Suriyanto emphasized that dialogue on nationality and diversity needs to be woven continuously so that all elements of the nation can give each other constructive input and distance themselves from potential social divisions or destruction.
“This country is rich in local wisdom, tolerance and acceptance of different religious beliefs. We all have to believe that it is a gift from Allah SWT, God Almighty for the common good. This means that diversity is a wealth and a facility from God for us to know each other so that we can learn to understand and accept differences as a strength to build this country we love,” he said.
