Jakarta (ANN)  – As information technology advances and faces a political year ahead of the Presidential Election and the 2024 Election, General Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Journalists Association [DPP PWRI] Dr. Suriyanto PD, SH, MH, M.Kn, invited members of the press and the general public to maintain unity and unity, maintain religious harmony, and stay away from fake news or hoaxes, which have recently been increasingly prevalent on social media.
The reason, said Suriyanto, is that hoax news, especially with political content, can be a triggering factor for the collapse of unity and oneness, as well as the destruction of the values of love among the nation’s children.

“Let’s take care of this nation, we keep it conducive, especially since we are entering a political year, which will determine the fate of this nation going forward. As members of the press, I invite journalists to put forward positive, educative news so that they can inspire and instill a spirit of love for the country,” Suriyanto said in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday [20/4/2023].

Suriyanto emphasized that in a political year there will definitely be friction, and there are certain parties who want to pit the community against each other.
“Don’t be easily provoked, pay attention, be thorough, cross-check properly, and do a good and clear analysis,” he explained.
Suriyanto hopes that contestation in elections can take place peacefully and conducively.
The lecturer in law at a university in Jakarta asked the public to be mature in responding to different views in politics.
“We have to be clear, that political choices are political choices. It doesn’t need to be packaged or polished in religious language,” he said.
Suriyanto again revealed that ahead of the 2023-2024 political year, surveys showed an increase in the potential for radicalism.

Therefore, he asked, all elements of society must be able to unite in order to anticipate this risk so that it does not spread further in society and undermine the social order and divide the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Suriyanto appealed to all parties to continue to be aware of the threat of radicalism in society.
“The momentum of the political year that this nation will soon face could become an arena for each group to actualize their respective wishes. Especially when they use methods that violate the law, of course, this can cause anxiety for the wider community.

This anticipatory effort is a very important thing to continue to be carried out by every element of society in Indonesia, so that it is not easily divided just because of different political views,” he concluded. [ Jagad/red ]
